Fire Weather Index Sytem

The Fire Weather Index System is one of the modelling components calculated in the Global ECMWF Fire forecast system for the European Forest Fire Integrated Forecasting System (EFFIS).

Description & Technical Information

Description

6 outputs are generated in terms of fire danger indices that are then distributed to the EFFIS network and already used among the European civil protections:

  • Fire Weather Index
  • Build Up Index
  • Duff Moisture Code
  • Drought Code
  • Fine Fuel Moisture Code
  • Initial Spread Index
