Storm surge hazard level

Storm surge hazard level based on the exceedance of the forecasted extreme surge level corresponding to different return periods of the storm surge (5, 20, 50 and 100 years).

Description & Technical Information

Description

The product Storm Surge Hazard Level (SSHL) forecast shows the shoreline location where the forecasted storm surge exceeds the storm surge level corresponding to different return period (5, 20, 50 and 100 years). The hazard level is ranked from no hazard, when surge level is lower than the surge level corresponding to a 5 years return periods, to very high, when the surge level is above the surge level corresponding to a 100-years return period. The product is based on the comparison of forecasted surge level and the probabilistic extreme analysis of the storm surge hindcast performed at pan-European scale, using the circulation model SCHISM. The data is with 10 km resolution in the coastal area.
